More bigots

These people remind me of old time bigots (BTW notice the color of the skin of the models they use for marriage). The language they use:

This is a defining moment in history. It is time for members of Congress to take a stand for traditional marriage.

just reeks of the code used by people wishing to return to the "good old days" when whites ruled the roost. And yes I know this isn't about white and black, but it's about keeping a minority group in this country "in their place". Our Constitution is in place to protect the minority from an oppressive majority. It's being tested today, so please support MillionForMarriage.org to send the proper message Congress. Bigot

On the Simpson's the other night, Homer performed dozens of gay marriages, and his wife Marge's sister, Patty, showed up with her girlfriend.

L Brent Bozell III, the president of the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL, blasts, "At a time when the public mood is overwhelmingly against gay marriage, any show that promotes gay marriage is deliberately bucking the public mood."

Let's think about that for a minute. This is so typical of neo conservatives. We've seen it with Iraq (if you oppose the war you're hurting America and endangering our troops) and now we see it with gay marriage opponents. Unpopular ideas (and it's beyond me why gay marriage is unpopular. What are people afraid of, happy gay people?) need to be discussed in this country, otherwise we're still having segragated diners. L Brent Bozell III is a f*cking *sshole.

Propoganda

A New York congresswoman asked the White House to explain Wednesday why a man who worked for a news Web site owned by a GOP activist was able to obtain White House press credentials under an assumed name.

Apparently James Guckert reported from the White House under the name Jeff Gannon actually worked for a news web site run by a GOP activist.

In a letter to President Bush, Rep. Louise Slaughter, a Democrat, questioned why Guckert routinely received credentials for White House news briefings.

Slaughter linked Guckert's case to recent revelations that two conservative columnists who supported Bush administration policies had received government money.

"It appears that 'Mr. Gannon's' presence in the White House press corps was merely as a tool of propaganda for your administration," Slaughter wrote.

Here's a question Mr. Guckert asked at the last press conference:

Guckert asked Bush how he could deal with Democratic congressional leaders "who seem to have divorced themselves from reality."

This White House is all about propoganda. They pay columnists to write favorable stories on their policies and now this.

No one could imagine...

So the 9/11 report cites many warnings about hijackings:

The report discloses that the Federal Aviation Administration, despite being focused on risks of hijackings overseas, warned airports in the spring of 2001 that if "the intent of the hijacker is not to exchange hostages for prisoners, but to commit suicide in a spectacular explosion, a domestic hijacking would probably be preferable."

Compare this to what Condescending Rice said prior to the 9/11 hearings:

No one could have imagined them taking a plane, slamming it into the Pentagon ... into the World Trade Center, using planes as a missile.

I don't understand why this administration continues to get a free ride on 9/11.

Thanks to Internet Weekly for the above picture. It's not quite on topic but I loved it.Posted by Hello

Who should I send this envelope to?

I'm having a hard time thinking of someone who might enjoy this... Oh, I know, perhaps sending a wedding RSVP back in this envelope. Hmmm. Anyway, go to reaganenvelope.com for the full story.Posted by Hello

How's That Again?

From Newsday.com:

Mayor Michael Bloomberg thought he had come to a reasonable solution in the gay marriage debate: He would publicly support gay marriage, but challenge a court decision allowing it.

What a bleeping idiot. And he's only succeeded in pissing off, oh, EVERYONE. Here's the full article. I wish people had the political will to do the right thing.

On a happier note, Carly Fiorina is fired. Posted by Hello

Like Father, Like Son

I'm reading Castles of Steel: Britain, Germany and Winning the Great War at Sea by Robert Massie, chronicling the Naval History of WW1. It's a follow-up to Dreadnought by the same author that chronicles the naval build-up by Germany and Britain in the decades leading up to WW1. I'm at the chapter on Gallipoli, and there's an extensive footnote on an Australian war correspondent, Keith Arthur Murdoch, who -- according to the author -- sent false and malicious lies about the conduct of British troops at Gallipoli to the Australian Prime Minister, i.e. "British officers ordered their men to shoot any British troops who lagged behind or loitered in advance".

I'm reading this, and I'm wondering if this slimeball is any relation to another Murdoch we know and love who does so much for "respectable journalism" over at Fox News. Then, at the end of the footnote is this sentence:

"Interestingly, Keith Murdoch's son, Rupert, was one of the film's (Gallipoli) principal financial backers." Posted by Hello

Can you say, "Delusional"?

Republicans have released the 2005 Republican Freedom Calendar. From their website:

The History of the Republican Party is as remarkable as it is untold. In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Republican Party, the Republican Policy Committee has produced the 2005 Republican Freedom Calendar, to put some of the many important Republican achievements in advancing civil rights before today's students, families, and citizens from all walks of life who wish to be better informed about our national heritage

I can't find the words to describe how appalled I am. I do have an idea however. We need to create our own "Republican Freedom Calendar" and mark dates in it that show the true Republican attitude toward Civil Rights. For instance, the date Dick Cheney voted against making Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday would be marked. Also, the day Ronald Reagan, during his run for governor, endorsed the repeal of California's Fair Housing Act, saying, "If an individual wants to discriminate against Negroes or others in selling or renting his house, it is his right to do so." should also be recognized. Who's with me? Send me your great dates in Republican Civil Rights history and we'll put together a REAL calendar.
