If you do Google search on "'Ryan Thomas' soccer" this page comes up. I didn't realize Ryan had won "Rookie of the Year". I know I'm 1 1/2 months late, but congratulations Ryan!

I hope people can read this article w/o registering for the NY Times. The elder George sums up his reason for not being elected as, "my problem was the economy was good but I couldn't get people to understand that."

Yeah, that was his problem. Yeah, that and the underpants gnomes.

Adrienne bought me an XM Satellite Radio for my birthday. It's for the car (and why do all my nieces and nephews drive nicer cars than me?) and the home. I'm mounting some speakers on the patio and we'll use this for outdoor music.

Here's the "How scary is this?" linked to a page you don't need a subscription for.

How scary is this?

We now have air-conditioning! Or at least it's sitting there waiting for the city to come and say it's OK to hook up. So those of you visiting in the summer months will find a little more comfort.

Mimi's Cafe is going public. Since Joan works there, I wanted to see how the public offering might do. I did extensive research (as only a well-trained information professional could, and found the answer by asking, "Will Mimi's Cafe do well in their public offering?" and then clicking here.

Here is an interesting 1 page look at Dodger starting lineups through the years. Also, I was trying to remember the lame back-up player Rob or John sent a fan letter to, just to d*ck him around. I think it was PR Powell. While looking, I found this list of all-time player roster for the Dodgers, "Bill Grabarkewitz" anyone?

Can someone please explain to me why George Bush is pathologically unable to apologize for anything? This story about the abuse of Iraqi prisoners highlights this. I think we were wrong (call me crazy) to abuse Iraqi prisoners, yet here's Rumsfeld's take on on apologizing:
"There also was little inclination to officially apologize — a gesture that experts say carries significant weight in Arab societies. When asked about the possibility of apologizing in order to compete in a "war of ideas" in Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said he hadn't thought about it."
I'm speechless.

Also, here's a nice opinion piece that highlights how much our relations with Arab states have deteriorated.

Finally, does anybody run streaming radio on their computer? I'm listening to Super 70's with Vince Garcia... it rocks! Playing now is Carol Douglas - "Doctor`s Orders". Wait, I probably shouldn't be admitting that...

Last night we had a dinner party (BTW, does anyone have a good hangover cure?). We spent the week preparing for this. We made the spiced almonds and the salmon mousse during the week. Come yesterday, we still had to make the gazpacho, the choux puffs (to stuff the salmon mousse in -- damn that is good... add dill to the dough), the grilled vegetables, the sauteed leeks and mushrooms (the bed for the grilled scallops), the grilled scallops, the filet mignons and the lemon cake (I can't find the recipe online).

So the day was busy...I laughed when, at one point during the day as we are frantically trying to get everything ready, we had the contractors here working on the basement, J was helping me hang the art we had bought, and the delivery people showed up with our china cabinet.

So dinner turned out really well, but the hit was the lemon cake Adrienne spent 6 hours making Saturday. If I can find the recipe online I'll post it. It came from Fine Cooking. A 2 layer cake, with the layers split and lemon curd as the filling. For the cake, you make a sugar - lemon zest mixture and Adrienne also used European butter in making the cake. I don't know if that made the difference, but the cake was to die for.

Wines served through the evening were the J Sparkling, Gloria Ferrer Brut, Chateau St. Jean La Petite Etoile Fume Blanc, Loring Brosseau Pinot Noir and the Neipoort 10 year old Tawny.
