Have I mentioned how much I dislike Condescending Rice. At least today's article in the Chron made me smile.

Joan will be up April 3 to see Katie race in SF. Adrienne and I unfortunately are not available that day. We are having dinner here. But we'll leave a key out. I guess Joan will be working at Mimi's in SJ on Sunday. Maybe Adrienne and I will come in and be disgruntled customers...

Completely off topic, you know those Nigerian email scams? Well I got my 1 billionth email about it yesterday. Having deleted many, I decided to reply:

Dear Mr. Chambers (or is it "Dear Mr. Chambers esq."?
I'm afraid I'm not very good at proper letter writing
etiquette, I had to miss school as a child to help my
father in the coal mines. He was blind. I'd lead him
to a coal deposit and stand in front of it and yell,
"hit here" and then duck really quickly so he wouldn't
put the pick axe into my face. I mostly got out of
the way):

Thank you so much for writing. I don't have a brother
named "Morie", but my father James, has a 2nd cousin
Jane, who's step-niece Joyce (her mom, Janet, was a
slut, but that's another story) married a Morton
Shannon. He may have died. Is it possible it's the
same person. If so how do I help insure the money
doesn't go to waste?

Yours,

Dave

Now I couldn't imagine anyone taking that seriously, but I got a reply.
Given that these people are all about stealing I think he deserves to have his chain yanked. Anyone who'd like to draft a response to this guy, I'll post here for consideration and we can vote on the best response, which I'll send on. :)

Happy St. Patricks Day! And Happy Birthday Colleen!

Tuesday, March 16, 2004

New basement pictures are up. They've raised 1 of the 2 header beams and will finish the other by tomorrow. Then everything just has to set a week to settle.

Anybody else making corned beef and cabbage tomorrow? I bought a piece of first cut corned beef at Whole Foods Market and will be cooking it with cabbage, potatoes, carrots, guinness et al in the slow cooker tomorrow for about 12 hours... yum.

Get your picks in for the pool!

I need to post this because Rob and I had an argument years ago about 99's first name. I said we never knew it, he said it was "Susan Hilton". I'll let the facts speak for themselves.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with snopes.com, but I use it a lot because I get so many urban legends mailed to me...they posted this today (warning it is gruesome -- definitely "pg-13 or r" rated)

Dinner last night was fantastic! I did the slow cooked pork roast with a raspberry chipolte sauce. Damn that was good. Someone brought a bunch of bread from a SF Baker and also several cheeses.

Let me know if you didn't get the Sportsline invite for the NCAA tourney, I'll get it to you... Good luck to you all (especially me).

I just finished scrubbing the bathroom floors in preparation for our dinner party tonight, so I'm sitting here reading the Mercury News online and found this. Looking through with an eye as to how I would get out of that jury, I thought I'd answer #45 this way.

I sure wish I had found this before they pulled it down. What were they thinking?

Friday, March 12, 2004

You gotta like Donald Rumsfeld. Oh wait. No you don't.

I sent out a sportsline bracket, it's not meant to replace dad's system of clipping out brackets and sending them through snail mail. Wait a minute, yes it is. Or not. I haven't tried this before let me know what you think. In fact I think I'll make it the poll question. BTW, I was the one who suggested "cadavers" for Jenny's team name, whoever had $20 on that can send it my way.

Speaker of Jenny, she sent along this article. Can we say, "Right-Wing Conspiracy"? Have I mentioned how much I hate Bush.

A co-worker of Adrienne got married in SF the day before they halted them. Adrienne said he was thrilled the day he got married.. I still don't understand what Bush fears from this. Perhaps he's just trying to appease this wacko.

Rob passed along this, I laughed :). Kath apparently missed on the cruel sister poll, I'll run something similar soon.

I assume we've all heard of the latest embarrasment to hit UCLA. Say what you want about Cal State San Bernardino, At least we didn't resort to this.

For whatever reason, Taco Bell came up at work. I started raving about the BellBeefers I used to get on those Friday night outings. Wondering why Taco Bell didn't put them back on the menu I wrote them. Got back the standard form letter thanking me for my interest in Taco Bell, yada yada yada. I don't think they are coming back any time soon.

Finally, I saw this article. For whatever reason, I thought of all those drives by the Rubidoux Drive-In as kids in the wagon looking to see what was playing (perhaps an "R" rated film-- did mom and dad ever worry about what was on the screen as we went by?).

Here's a list of suggested team names for Jenny; Cadavers, Bruin Ghouls, Other (2 of those???), Chim Chim, My team is more interesting than my Uncle Dave's web site (yawn), Storm Bruin. It's up to you Jenny, but I'm kinda liking "Other".

I found this pretty bleeping funny. I think Dear Abby will be getting lot's more emails from Marge :).

Basement work continues. New pictures are posted.

Adrienne and I made the trip to Russian River yesterday to try the Barrel Tasting. You can see a few pictures here. We had a great time. Went with our friends Dave and Madeline. We started at Siduri where we bought a bottle of Pinot. Continued on to J Wine Co. We're members there and get free tastings. They had barrel tastings upstairs. We tried several, the best was the Block 6 and 7 from Nicole's Vineyard. It'll be released next year. Then we headed up to Preston Vineyards. They are pretty much at the end of dry creek road. Great place to picnic and play Bocce Ball. Finally we headed down to Armida. Gorgeous views. They went all out for the Barrel tasting. They had a "Heaven" room (white wines) and a "Hell" Room (reds) (those are the last few pictures here. The place was packed. They're best know for their reserve Poizin ("Poizin" "Poisin" get it?). All in all a great trip.

You may say, "Dave, after that I bet you just went home and collapsed". You'd be wrong. We then headed to Harris'. A classic Steakhouse in SF. I had the Prime Rib, damn it was good. Need to take mom and dad there. Had a bottle of Turjanis Pinot. It's a small winery owned by Karen Turjanis. Great stuff.

Boy after wine country and dinner, you'd probably say, "Dave I bet you headed home after that exciting day". Wrong! We then went over to Dennis Rae Fine Art to go to a reception for the Dr. Seuss' 100th bday. Really nice show.

After wine country, steakhouse and art gallery, you're probably thinking, "Dave, you're a wild man." Yes I am.

Saturday, March 06, 2004

I haven't posted for a while because I lost my DSL connection (same day contractors were moving the phone stuff in the basement... coincidence? I think not). Anyway you'll see a new link on the page entitled "basement". I'm taking pictures as the work in our basement goes on. You can follow the progress on the web site... or not.

We're heading up to the Russian River Wine Road Barrel Tasting. We did it last year and had a great time. and no, we don't taste barrels, we get to taste wine that's still in the barrels aging and will be bottled sometime in the future. We'll probably hit J Wine Co and Siduri for certain, and then see what else strikes our mood.

I got an email from Barbara Boxer in response to my email letting her know how disappointed I was with her position on gay marriages (she opposes them). Read her response and see if her email actually ever addresses why she opposes gay marriage.

Lisa sent me a note questioning the validity of the results of the cutest pet poll. This family has a bunch of sore losers. She also suggested I post Rosie's picture to this website so I submitted this picture of Rosie.

It's election day! Go Vote!

Monday, March 01, 2004

It's Adrienne's B-Day today! (oops, I think I just missed Jim T's -- dammit! Happy Birthday Jim! Does wishing someone happy birthday on a website count? Probably not) We celebrated by finishing cleaning out the basement this weekend. Yippee! They start work today and hope to be finished by May 1 (about the time pigs fly).

New poll! I know I'm missing mean moments from my sisters' history, so please feel free to insert your own.

Wrapping up previous poll results -- worst oscar winner was (who pulled all those quotes, damn they were funny) Titanic. Most likely to screw up draft was Jim H. Cutest pet was Rosie and no one cares what I call my web site.
